About the author: Ashley Deacon came to Cornell after completing his Ph.D. in the laboratory of John Helliwell at the University of Manchester, England. He has recently moved to become a staff scientist at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory. His recent work is cited in a news section article of Science magazine entitled “New Math Speeds the Search for Protein Structures” by D. Kestenbaum (vol. 282, 2 October 1998, pages 30-31).
